Are you coming to Lanzarote and you are not sure what to do or where to surf? I'll tell you what Bermeja is like, one of the best beaches in Lanzarote.
Surfing on a beach surrounded by volcanoes like Bermeja is a unique experience.
Playa Montaña Bermeja is a magical beach in Lanzarote. Full of energy, wild, volcanic, somewhat dangerous and with a magnificent right-hand wave. What a combination, isn't it? The contrast of the black sand with the intense blue of the sea and the red volcano that gives it its name inspired the design of this souvenir, "Surf Rider".
“Montaña Bermeja beach in Lanzarote has one of the most spectacular and energetic sunsets I have ever witnessed”
It is near the Timanfaya National Park and its volcanic formation is clear. Its sharp rocks and black sand give it a look worthy of a science fiction film.
Did you know it is one of the most used beaches in Lanzarote for filming?
But let's get down to what interests us most in this case, surfing. Montaña Bermeja beach has a spectacular right-handed wave. However, remember this is a beach that is barely 100 metres wide, with strong currents and a volcanic rock bottom, so surfing is not recommended if you are a beginner. The wave comes out at low tide and has a better shape with not too much sea power, as it can quickly become dangerous.
My experience surfing in Bermeja beach
It is one of the waves I feel most proud to have surfed, always respecting the most experienced riders that may be at the peak and with that tension of constant alertness, where every movement is key to finishing the wave on the left side of the beach, from where it is easier to access the peak again.
And what did you think of this beach, did you surf its wave, what sensations did it give you?
