Do you want to know what to do in Lanzarote?

Then, visit the National Park of Timanfaya is an excellent plan full of volcanos and incredible landscapes.

Lanzarote is considered the island of fire. The importance of volcanic explosions for its formation is more than evident in the entire landscape of the island, which gives it a special identity. This magnet intended to represent this strong contrast between fire and water, so enigmatic and energetic that Lanzarote offers.

The Timanfaya National Park covers nearly 5,000 hectares. It is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA).

Although all the Canary Islands are of volcanic origin, it is in Lanzarote where this is clear at every turn. Wherever you go, you will find a volcano, red mountains and deep black seas of lava. But if you want to delve deeper into the heart of the island, you should visit the Timanfaya National Park.

The volcanic eruptions that took place from 1730 to 1736 and in 1824 created the imposing topography that you can see in Timanfaya National Park. It is a vast expanse worthy of a science fiction film. The main peak is the Fire Mountains and around it, you can see up to 25 others surrounded by rivers of lava that reach the sea.

The lava and ash seas of Timanfaya are full of deep caves that the Guanches used for hunting and resting, but with great caution, as some of them are dark labyrinths from which you might never find your way out again.

At first glance, it looks like a desolate landscape, full of mystery and gloom, thanks to the fact that it is a well-protected space that has remained in this wild state. But in fact, it is full of life. There are many endemic species and species such as lichens, spiders, crickets, lizards, protected birds such as shearwaters and kestrels, hawks, owls…

Without a doubt, visiting the Timanfaya National Park is a great idea. You can contemplate the landscape from the viewpoint restaurant, and if you want to go into the volcanoes, get on a bus that will take you through the lava, although you cannot get off as it is a protected area.

The Timanfaya National Park and all that surrounds it are a must to enjoy quality tourism and get to know the identity of Lanzarote. As it could not be otherwise, we had to dedicate its own magnet souvenir.

The black and red of the earth clashes strongly against the intense blues of the sea and the sky wherever you look. A spectacle of colours full of energy that we wanted to represent in this Fire Island magnet.

My experience visiting Timanfaya National pack and surroundings

I think that visiting the Timanfaya Park is crucial to understanding the origin of the island of Lanzarote.

My recommendation is to access the park from the south, starting from Yaiza toward Tinajo, enjoying the incredible scenery that this road offers. In fact, it's quite a famous road to take a photo and post it on Instagram.

Before reaching the park, on your left, you will see the camels that will accompany you on a ride between volcanoes. In the park, you can enjoy the stunning views of lava and volcanoes that reach the sea, feel the heat of the ground on your feet, and eat at the El Diablo restaurant.

For the more curious, you can continue your route to Mancha Blanca, where you will find the visitor centre where they will explain more about the volcanic eruptions and the history of the people of Lanzarote.

Alternatively, you can follow the same route in the opposite direction, starting from the visitor centre, which is free, and arrive at Timanfaya Park well prepared to understand and locate each volcanic cone and caldera in the landscape.
